Despite the snow, which had covered the roadside at the start of April, and despite the dreary start to the day, the First Congregational Church of Milford held their spring "Sponsor a Highway" road cleanup on Saturday, April 12. Lead by members of the Men's Breakfast Group, the parishioners gathered at the Parish House first thing in the morning for a hearty breakfast. Throughout breakfast it remained rainy and cool outside. But as breakfast came to a close, breaks started to appear in the clouds and by the time the safety review was complete it had turned into a beautiful day.
Even on short notice, 8 members of the church pitched in on the project. In total over 20 bags of trash were collected from a 2 mile section of Route 13 from North River Rd. north into Mont Vernon. This is the largest amount of trash that's been collected along this stretch in spite of the fact that it's been thoroughly cleaned 2 times in the prior 12 months. The church hopes that by doing the cleanup and discussing the issue of litter on our local highways we can all pitch in to reduce the unsightly clutter.
The First Congregational Church can be found just a few steps from the Oval at 10 Union St., Milford, NH. Services are held each Sunday at 10am (9am during July and August) and a Contemporary Service is held the last Saturday night each month. All church facilities are wheelchair accessible, nursery care is provided during Sunday services, and Sunday School is held every Sunday from September to June for age 3 to grade 12.
The Men's Breakfast Group meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 7:30am in the Parish House. Men of all faiths are welcome to join us for food and fellowship.
