Welcome

WE'RE 225 YEARS YOUNG IN 2013!

Founded in 1788, we are Milford's "first church," and have been so  for 225 years. Over the last two and a quarter centuries, "Old First Church" has contributed greatly to the development and betterment of our town. Our first sanctuary, now Eagle Hall, is a landmark on the Milford Oval. Our first Minister, the Reverend Humphrey Moore, D.D., was the first settled clergyman in Milford. He was one of Milford's leading citizens for nearly seventy years. During his long life, Moore was a successful Pastor, noted author, a leading scientific agronomist statewide, schoolteacher, Harvard tutor, New Hampshire State Senator and Representative, Congressional candidate, and Abolitionist crusader. He frequently was four or five of these things at once! A local historian labeled Moore most distinguished individual ever to live in Milford -- so far.

Our current historic sanctuary, dedicated in 1834, and seated on a beautifully landscaped, four-acre campus with plenty of parking, is a focal point downtown. Its outdoor chapel, overlooking a pond, is available to all, and frequently is sought out for quiet prayer and meditation. Our 1863 Parish House has been the site of numerous concerts, and  hosts countless community groups, including The Milford Garden Club, Boy and Girl Scout Troops, the Souhegan Valley Chorus, and Twelve Step programs that meet five days a week. Our Annual Auction  is the oldest in the state. It, and our famous Holly Berry Fair near Christmas, are much anticipated community events. In addition to actively supporting local ministries, like SHARE and the CROP Walk, First Congregational Church is engaged in regional, national and global outreach projects. We are an active, visible and welcoming congregation at the heart of our community. At age 225, Old First Church is very much alive. Please join us at 10 AM for worship, or for one of our many events. Come and see Milford's Church... founded in 1788 on the Milford Oval, and still going strong!
