Prayer Shawl Ministry

“Shawls … made for centuries universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles…”
Janet Bristow – 1998

The First Congregational Church of Milford formed a Prayer Shawl Ministry in 2005.   Able knitters, both locally and far away, have knitted dozens of shawls and baby blankets to aid this ministry of our church.   Our pastor and parish visitor have lovingly given these items to those needing comfort and to new babies to wrap them in warmth, both physically and spiritually.   This is an active prayer ministry to express love and comfort to church members, friends, or loved ones.

“Care and the love of knitting have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches
out to those in need of comfort and solace. Many blessings are knitted into every shawl.”

Janet Bristow – 2005
